Home Minister Amit Shah (ANI)
Home Minister Amit Shah has made a big announcement. He said on Tuesday that the number of Naxal-affected districts in the country has come down to six. Earlier this figure was 12, but in the last few months, the way the government has launched a campaign against Naxalism, it has brought relief. Now only 6 districts of the country are left affected by Naxalism.
Amit Shah has once again reiterated the resolve that by March 31, 2026, the country will be completely Naxal-free. "The Modi government is building a strong, secure and prosperous India. We are moving on the path of development and the country is fast becoming Naxal-free. By March 31, 2026, India will be completely Naxal-free.
He said India is committed to completely root out Naxalism by March 31, 2026. "Taking a big step towards creating a Naxal-free India, today our country has achieved a new milestone by reducing the number of districts most affected by Left Wing Extremism from 12 to just six," Shah wrote on social media platform 'X'. According to the Union Home Ministry data, the districts affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) are those where Naxal activities and violence are still continuing.
These districts have been sub-categorized as 'most affected districts'. This is the terminology brought out in 2015. In addition, one sub-category belongs to the category of 'Districts of Concern'. This sub category was created in 2021. According to the last review, there were 12 'most affected districts'. According to official records, there were 35 such districts in 2015, 30 districts in 2018 and 25 districts in 2021. Now this figure is decreasing rapidly. It is clear that in the last 10 years, Naxalism has been eliminated from 29 districts and now it is left in only 6 districts.
